Most cases of rectal mucosal congestion are caused by inflammation of the rectal mucosa. This inflammation may result from prolonged consumption of unhygienic food or from infection, leading to clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and a persistent urge to defecate. During colonoscopy, rectal mucosal congestion is visibly apparent. If confirmed, treatment—under medical guidance—may include oral antibiotics or medications that protect the intestinal mucosa.
