What to Do If You Suspect a Centipede Sting
Disease description:
Today, I felt something biting me and suspect it was a centipede bite. What should I do if I suspect a centipede bite?
After a centipede bite, the wound should be cleaned promptly using soapy water.
Centipede venom is acidic; therefore, the wound should be immediately rinsed under running cold water with soapy water. Gently squeeze the wound from the proximal (closer to the heart) end toward the distal (farther from the heart) end to expel as much venom as possible. If venom cannot be expressed manually, do not attempt to suck it out with the mouth; instead, use appropriate medical tools or devices.
