Fosamax (alendronate sodium tablets) improves osteoporosis through multiple mechanisms and plays a certain role in the diagnosis and treatment of this condition. Clinical studies have shown that this drug inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, preserves bone architecture, improves bone acidification, increases cortical thickness and ultrasound bone mineral density—thereby enhancing bone strength—and alleviates and prevents osteoporosis. It also effectively reduces the risk of fractures at vertebral, hip, and other skeletal sites. Contraindications: Fosamax is contraindicated in patients with esophageal motility disorders (e.g., achalasia or esophageal stricture), severe renal impairment, or osteomalacia.
