What causes a dull pain in the upper stomach (epigastric region)?
Disease description:
I’ve been feeling unwell today, with a persistent dull pain in the upper abdomen (epigastric region). I’m not sure if it’s a stomach-related issue—what could be causing this dull epigastric pain?
Common causes of dull pain in the upper abdomen (epigastric region) include gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), cholecystitis, and gastric ulcers. In GERD patients, gastric contents may reflux into the esophagus, causing localized pain. During acute episodes of cholecystitis, patients may experience paroxysmal pain, often presenting as dull epigastric discomfort. In gastric ulcer patients, mucosal damage in the stomach can cause pain that radiates to the cardiac region.
