What Should You Do About Itchy Skin in Winter?
Disease description:
I don’t know why, but every winter my skin becomes itchy—sometimes severely so. What should I do about this?
Management of winter-related pruritus requires analysis of the underlying cause. This condition may result from winter itch (asteatotic eczema), impaired cutaneous circulation leading to nutritional deficits in the skin, or external irritants. Under a physician’s guidance, topical corticosteroids—such as hydrocortisone ointment—may be prescribed. Alternatively, antihistamines—such as loratadine—may be used to alleviate inflammatory responses.
