In most cases, mosquito bites in infants can be treated with soap water or aloe vera juice to reduce swelling and relieve itching. Aloe vera juice has natural anti-itch and anti-inflammatory properties. Soap water is also effective because soap is alkaline while mosquito venom is acidic—thus, neutralization occurs. Additionally, mentholated ointment (cooling oil) may be used after mosquito or insect bites to alleviate itching and reduce swelling. However, since mentholated ointment can be irritating, it should be applied carefully on infants—avoiding the areas around the nose and eyes.
