What should I do if my baby’s mosquito or insect bite hasn’t healed after one month?
Disease description:
It’s been a month, and the bumps on my baby’s skin from mosquito bites still haven’t healed. What should I do if my baby’s insect bites haven’t improved after a month?
If a baby’s mosquito or insect bite does not heal within a month, it can generally be managed with oral medications and topical application of iodophor (e.g., povidone-iodine). Infants and young children are especially prone to infection following insect bites due to their immature immune systems and tendency to unconsciously scratch the affected area—potentially worsening the injury and introducing infection. Repeated local disinfection with iodophor is recommended. If pronounced pruritus (itching) is present, antihistamines such as chlorpheniramine may be administered orally to achieve desensitization, thereby alleviating localized swelling and itching. Additionally, maintain a light, bland diet and ensure meticulous local hygiene.
