In general, it is recommended to begin introducing complementary foods to your baby gradually around 5 months of age. At 5 months, you may start with smooth purees such as fruit puree, vegetable puree, and rice cereal. As your baby adapts, you can progressively introduce finely minced foods—for example, tofu and finely chopped vegetables. By approximately 11 months, you may incorporate more finely chopped foods, such as flaked fish and soft-cooked rice. Additionally, when introducing complementary foods, always follow the principles of “starting with small amounts and gradually increasing,” and “progressing from soft to firmer textures and from smooth to coarser consistencies” to prevent digestive upset.
