What does a weakly positive result for occult blood in urine testing indicate?
Disease description:
Over the past two days, I’ve noticed my urine appears slightly reddish when urinating. A urinalysis performed at the hospital showed trace (weak) positive occult blood. What could be causing this?
Urinalysis revealed trace positive occult blood, indicating the presence of red blood cells in the patient’s urine. When this occurs, it is essential first to rule out whether the female patient is menstruating, as menstrual contamination of the urine specimen may produce a false-positive result. After excluding such confounding factors, this finding may suggest an underlying renal disorder, such as chronic glomerulonephritis or a urinary tract infection.
