Disease description:

Recently, while showering, I noticed some tiny, hard bumps clustered at the base of my scrotum. They are painless to touch, and I don’t feel any discomfort—so I’m wondering: What could cause a small, hard bump at the base of the scrotum?

Small bumps on the scrotum are most commonly caused by scrotal eczema. If the foreskin is excessively long and inadequate hygiene is maintained, smegma may accumulate in the space between the foreskin and glans penis, leading to localized inflammation of the foreskin and mucosa—and subsequently causing scrotal papules. Scrotal papules may also be associated with sexually transmitted infections (STIs); common conditions such as genital warts (caused by human papillomavirus) and genital herpes may present with acne-like lesions on the scrotum. Untimely treatment can lead to complications of male urogenital disorders, including dysuria and acute urinary retention.
