Why do I experience palpitations upon waking up in the morning?
Disease description:
I have something to attend to outside today. I got up at around 6 a.m. and suddenly felt palpitations and heart fluttering—what could be causing this?
Morning palpitations upon waking may be associated with autonomic nervous system imbalance and hypoglycemia. During wakefulness, sympathetic nervous system activity increases, leading to elevated heart rate and blood pressure. Upon awakening in the morning, the sympathetic nervous system transitions abruptly from a suppressed state to an activated state, resulting in increased release of catecholamines. These substances stimulate the sinoatrial (SA) node, increasing the frequency of electrical impulses and thereby accelerating the heart rate—causing the sensation of palpitations. Additionally, because no food has yet been consumed upon waking, hypoglycemia may occur, which can also trigger palpitations.
