What Causes Pain Around the Fingernails?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve experienced pain near my stent, along with some swelling. Additionally, the area around my fingernails is painful—what could be causing this?
Pain around the fingernails may indicate paronychia. If the skin surrounding the nail becomes injured and is not properly cared for, bacterial infection can easily develop, leading to paronychia—characterized by localized pain and swelling; in severe cases, pus formation may occur. When paronychia develops, treatment with topical medications such as erythromycin ointment, ichthammol ointment, or fusidic acid ointment may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance.
