What causes the rough, goosebump-like bumps on the outer side of the arms?
Disease description:
The skin on the outer side of my arms is extremely rough and feels very uncomfortable to the touch. What’s causing the goosebump-like bumps on the outer side of my arms?
Small, gooseflesh-like bumps on the outer side of the arms may indicate keratosis pilaris. Keratosis pilaris is an inherited skin disorder caused by hyperkeratinization (excessive keratin buildup) at the hair follicle openings. This impairs normal hair growth, causing hairs to curl and become trapped within the follicles. The affected skin feels notably rough—resembling goosebumps. Treatment for keratosis pilaris may include topical medications such as adapalene gel, salicylic acid ointment, or dexamethasone ointment, under a physician’s guidance.
