Can eating fatty meat cause high blood sugar?
My blood sugar is somewhat elevated. I now eat very little sweet food, but I’m unsure whether I can consume fatty meat. Can eating fatty meat cause high blood sugar?
Consuming fatty meat can also lead to elevated blood glucose levels.
Although fatty meat contains no sugar and therefore does not directly raise blood glucose, it is high in both calories and fat. Dietary fat can be converted into glucose within the body; excessive intake of fatty meat thus results in increased glucose production, leading to a significant rise in blood glucose levels—and potentially serious complications such as hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state or diabetic ketoacidosis—thereby endangering overall health. Therefore, individuals with elevated blood glucose should limit their consumption of fatty meat.
