Is pediatric acute suppurative parotitis contagious?
Disease description:
Yesterday, I took my child to the hospital for an examination and was diagnosed with acute suppurative parotitis in children. I would like to ask whether this condition is contagious.
Acute suppurative parotitis in children is typically non-contagious. Since this condition is caused by bacterial infection, it is not transmissible; therefore, parents need not be overly concerned. However, when acute suppurative parotitis occurs, symptoms such as localized swelling and pain may appear. Under a physician’s guidance, anti-inflammatory medications—such as cefaclor granules—may be administered. In some cases, surgical incision and drainage may be necessary.
