Is acute suppurative parotitis contagious?
Disease description:
I have developed swelling in my parotid region and suspect acute suppurative parotitis. Is acute suppurative parotitis contagious?
Acute suppurative parotitis can be contagious. It is often associated with *Staphylococcus aureus* infection and thus carries a certain degree of transmissibility. Close contact with an infected individual may increase the risk of cross-infection. Therefore, antibiotic therapy—such as norfloxacin capsules—should be administered under a physician’s guidance. Additionally, surgical incision and drainage may be performed to facilitate pus evacuation and improve clinical outcomes.
