Causes of Postpartum Constipation
Disease description:
I am 27 years old and it has been nearly one month since I gave birth. Recently, I have been experiencing constipation—my stools are dry and hard, and defecation is difficult. I would like to know the causes of postpartum constipation.
Postpartum constipation may result from an imbalanced diet—specifically, insufficient intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, coupled with excessive consumption of highly nutritious foods—which can reduce bowel movement frequency and lead to constipation. It may also stem from postpartum physical weakness and diminished gastrointestinal function, causing prolonged retention of contents within the digestive tract and subsequent constipation. Additionally, physical activity typically decreases after childbirth; prolonged sitting or bed rest further increases the risk of developing constipation.
