Can poorly made porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns cause bad breath?
Disease description:
I recently had porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) dental crowns placed, and now I’m experiencing bad breath. Can poorly made PFM crowns cause halitosis?
Poorly fitted porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns do not necessarily cause halitosis. However, when halitosis occurs, it may be due to plaque buildup around the PFM crown; bacterial metabolites accumulating on dental calculus can lead to bad breath. Alternatively, halitosis may result directly from dental calculus. Additionally, if gingival recession creates gaps between the PFM crown and the natural tooth, food debris may become trapped in these spaces, thereby causing halitosis.
