Does kidney pain caused by kidney stones occur because the stone has dislodged?
Disease description:
I have kidney stones, but I’ve recently experienced some pain in my kidney. Is this kidney pain caused by a stone moving down?
Renal colic caused by kidney stones may occur when a stone dislodges. When patients with kidney stones experience renal pain, it often indicates that the stone has shifted position—possibly having migrated into the ureter. This can trigger ureteral spasm, leading to symptoms of renal colic, and may also cause flank distension or pain, nausea, and vomiting. Patients should visit a hospital for a urinary system color Doppler ultrasound examination. If the stone is favorably positioned and not too large, treatment with lithotriptic granules (to promote stone expulsion) may be appropriate.
