Is mumps still contagious after the swelling has subsided?
Disease description:
I was diagnosed with mumps and have taken medication for some time; the swelling has now subsided. I would like to ask: Is mumps still contagious after the swelling has resolved?
Mumps is typically transmitted via droplets, direct contact, and blood. Even if a patient’s parotid glands have subsided after a period of medication, the saliva may still contain large amounts of virus, maintaining relatively high infectivity. Thus, mumps remains contagious even after swelling has resolved. Patients should undergo follow-up evaluation at a qualified hospital approximately one week after the parotid swelling has subsided to confirm clinical recovery.
