Fungal balanoposthitis is primarily characterized by erythema and swelling of the glans penis and prepuce, discharge from the glans, pruritus of the glans, and white membranous or curd-like deposits on the glans surface. If the condition results from a bacterial infection and bacitracin ointment proves ineffective, erythromycin ointment or chlortetracycline (aureomycin) ointment may be applied topically to the glans for therapeutic effect.
