Shape of Early Syphilitic Oral Ulcers
Disease description:
I recently developed oral ulcers, causing severe, unbearable pain and significant discomfort. I noticed oval-shaped blisters inside my mouth. My doctor diagnosed them as early-stage syphilitic oral ulcers. Could you please tell me what early-stage syphilitic oral ulcers typically look like?
Primary syphilitic oral ulcers typically present with minimal symptoms initially. They are usually round in shape, with well-defined margins and a surrounding, dewdrop-like rim. The base is flat and feels cartilaginous upon palpation. The lesion appears pinkish, with a small amount of serous exudate on its surface containing numerous spirochetes; the surrounding tissue is inflamed and erythematous. Notably, syphilitic oral ulcers exhibit a marked inflammatory response and are often accompanied by pain. In most cases, these ulcers heal spontaneously within 3–8 weeks.
