Disease description:

I rarely drank milk before, but after consuming plain (unflavored) milk twice recently, I noticed I developed bad breath. I’m not sure why this happened—could you please explain why drinking plain milk might cause bad breath?

Bad breath after drinking plain milk may result from the breakdown of sulfur-containing compounds in the mouth, which increases oral odor. It may also be due to milk being a relatively difficult-to-digest food; if the patient has impaired gastrointestinal function, consuming milk could trigger gastrointestinal dysfunction, leading to halitosis. It is recommended to brush teeth promptly after drinking milk to prevent oral odor.
