Can roundworms cause bad breath?
Disease description:
My colleague has bad breath, and I suspect it might be due to roundworm infection. I’d like to know: Can roundworms cause bad breath?
Ascariasis does not necessarily cause halitosis. Halitosis may result from indigestion, excessive stomach heat, poor oral hygiene, or oral diseases. In contrast, ascariasis typically presents with symptoms such as urticaria, fever, intermittent abdominal pain, and decreased appetite. Therefore, while ascariasis does not invariably cause halitosis, the parasites’ activity—particularly if accompanied by secretion of certain substances—may irritate the oral cavity and thereby induce halitosis.
