Hazards of Oral Mucocele
Disease description:
After developing a ranula (oral mucocele), the patient experiences difficulty eating and swallowing. What are the potential hazards of a ranula?
The hazards of oral mucoceles primarily involve recurrent irritation, pain, and impaired mobility of the tongue and lips, potentially affecting speech and eating functions. Oral mucoceles are tumor-like lesions; if left untreated, they may lead to complications or, rarely, malignant transformation. In cases of large oral mucoceles, symptoms such as dyspnea (difficulty breathing) and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) may occur.
