Can porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns cause pulpitis?

Disease description:

I’ve been experiencing frequent toothaches lately, and the painful tooth is one I previously had restored with a porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown. I’d like to know whether a PFM crown can also develop pulpitis.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns can lead to pulpitis. If the crown margin is not properly sealed during placement, prolonged external stimulation may eventually cause pulp pathology, resulting in pulpitis. Alternatively, pre-existing dental trauma prior to crown placement may have caused chronic inflammation, subsequently triggering pulpitis. It is recommended that you visit a hospital for relevant examinations and receive prompt treatment. During treatment, maintain good oral hygiene—rinse your mouth before and after meals—to prevent bacterial reinfection and avoid exacerbating the condition.
