Disease description:

I’m nearly three months pregnant and have developed constipation. Can pregnant women drink “Changqing Tea” (a laxative tea) for constipation relief?

Pregnant women experiencing constipation should not consume “Chang Qing Cha” (Intestinal Cleansing Tea). Drinking this tea often leads to diarrhea; severe diarrhea may adversely affect the fetus. During pregnancy, women tend to be less physically active, resulting in slower gastrointestinal motility and prolonged intestinal transit time for stool. Consequently, stool becomes drier and constipation is more likely to occur. To alleviate constipation, pregnant women may try drinking warm water or honey water. If constipation is severe, they may take mild, pregnancy-safe laxatives in appropriate doses, under medical guidance.
