Can taking liquid calcium cause constipation?
Disease description:
I frequently experience muscle cramps at night while sleeping. Currently, I am taking liquid calcium supplements to boost my calcium intake. Can taking liquid calcium cause constipation?
Taking liquid calcium generally does not cause constipation; however, excessive intake may lead to constipation. Liquid calcium itself carries a certain risk of constipation as a potential side effect. When taken at the prescribed dosage under medical supervision and combined with appropriate dietary adjustments, constipation can usually be avoided. Overdosing, however, increases the likelihood of constipation. It is recommended that, while taking liquid calcium, you consume plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits and maintain a daily fluid intake of 2,000 mL to keep the intestinal tract well-lubricated and promote healthy bowel motility—thereby helping to prevent constipation.
