Can Bactroban treat perianal abscess?

I recently noticed an abscess around my anus, but it doesn’t appear particularly severe. I’m considering treating it with Bactroban (mupirocin ointment). Can Bactroban effectively treat perianal abscesses?

Bactroban® can be used to treat perianal abscesses. In general, for mild cases of perianal abscess, topical application of Bactroban® may help reduce inflammation. However, in clinical practice, surgical incision and drainage are the standard treatment for perianal abscesses, primarily because such abscesses result from bacterial infection and tend to progress rapidly; topical medications alone cannot provide definitive treatment.
