Why Do I Have Colitis?
Disease description:
My abdomen feels slightly painful. After visiting the hospital for an examination, the doctor diagnosed me with colitis. I’m not familiar with this condition—what causes colitis?
Colitis may be caused by infections, such as bacterial or viral infections, which are relatively common triggers. Additionally, genetic factors play a role in colitis; individuals with a family history of colitis have a higher risk of developing the condition compared to the general population. Patients with immune-related disorders—such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia—are also at increased risk for colitis.
