Recently, my chronic hemorrhoids have flared up again—I’m almost beside myself with worry. A friend mentioned using moxa sticks for treatment, and I’d like to know: Can moxa sticks effectively treat hemorrhoids?

Moxa sticks can generally be used to treat hemorrhoids, but they only serve as an adjunctive therapy. From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), hemorrhoids are commonly caused by internal accumulation of damp-heat, obstruction of the meridians, or downward accumulation of turbid qi and stagnant blood in the anal region. Moxa sticks possess notable effects in warming the meridians, dispelling cold, promoting the circulation of qi and blood, and eliminating cold-dampness; thus, patients may use moxa sticks to alleviate hemorrhoid symptoms. To enhance therapeutic efficacy, it is recommended to select appropriate treatment methods under a physician’s guidance, possibly in combination with moxibustion.
