Ichthammol ointment is not indicated for tenosynovitis. It has antiseptic properties and is typically used to treat furuncles (boils). For tenosynovitis, topical diclofenac gel (e.g., Voltaren Emulgel) may be applied, combined with physical therapies such as warm compresses. Tenosynovitis is generally an aseptic inflammatory condition caused by chronic overuse or repetitive strain. Initial treatment focuses on rest and immobilization. In severe cases, immobilization with a cast may be required. Consistent local heat therapy and gentle local massage are also beneficial. Surgical intervention—such as tenosynovectomy or release of the constricted tendon sheath—may be considered when conservative measures fail.
