How many days does it usually take for swelling in the hand caused by a fall to subside?
Disease description:
I fell and injured my hand, and it’s now severely swollen. It’s been two days, but the swelling hasn’t subsided yet. How many days does it typically take for swelling from a hand injury to resolve?
In cases of simple trauma, soft tissues may exhibit mild edema; with a few days of rest and appropriate local medication, swelling typically begins to subside within 3–5 days following timely treatment, and resolution occurs relatively quickly. However, if hand swelling is accompanied by tendon or ligament injury, or by fractures of the phalanges or other bones, immobilization with a cast may be required. More severe injuries may necessitate surgical fixation via incision. In such cases, the duration of swelling depends on both the chosen treatment modality and the patient’s individual recovery process.
