I always feel soreness and weakness in my legs. After visiting the hospital for tests, I was diagnosed with cervical spondylosis—but I’m somewhat skeptical. Can cervical spondylosis really cause leg soreness and weakness?

This condition can be caused by cervical spondylosis, particularly in the early stage of cervical spondylotic myelopathy, which may lead to numbness in the soles of the feet. Patients often experience marked weakness in both lower limbs, a sensation of soreness and swelling, and a feeling of “walking on cotton” due to impaired proprioception. Consequently, patients with cervical spondylosis—especially those with cervical spondylotic myelopathy—may develop leg soreness. When this occurs, the first step is to avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits such as prolonged sitting or standing, excessive bending, and heavy lifting. Additionally, patients should rest more frequently on a firm mattress, and engage in appropriate physical activities—including hanging from a horizontal bar and swimming—when time permits.
