What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain in Pregnant Women After Intercourse During the Third Trimester?
Disease description:
I am nearly eight months pregnant. Yesterday, after intercourse, I experienced lower abdominal pain. What could cause lower abdominal pain in a pregnant woman during the third trimester following intercourse?
Abdominal pain following intercourse in late pregnancy may be a normal physiological symptom. During the late stages of pregnancy, fetal growth causes significant uterine enlargement, which can compress pelvic organs—including the bladder and fallopian tubes—potentially impairing local blood circulation and resulting in discomfort or pain. Alternatively, abdominal pain may indicate a gynecological inflammatory condition; intercourse can introduce bacterial infection or trigger a recurrence of existing inflammation, leading to abdominal pain.
