How to Treat Chapped Lips in Children
Disease description:
The child cries all day and won’t sleep—driving the entire family to despair. The child’s lips are cracked and painful, causing incessant crying. How should chapped lips in children be treated?
Treatment options for chapped lips in children include antiviral therapy, rehydration therapy, and vitamin supplementation. Some children develop angular cheilitis caused by herpes virus infection, presenting with dry, cracked lips; in such cases, oral antiviral syrup may be prescribed. In other instances, dehydration resulting from acute gastroenteritis—characterized by vomiting and diarrhea—requires oral rehydration salts (ORS), and intravenous fluid replacement may also be necessary. Chapped lips may reflect or contribute to picky or selective eating habits in children, potentially leading to indigestion and impaired absorption of vitamins.
