Hemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease and is therefore transmissible through various routes. Contact transmission occurs, for example, when a person is directly bitten by a virus-carrying rodent or when the virus comes into contact with broken skin. Respiratory transmission refers to inhalation of aerosols formed when rodent excreta become airborne; this can easily lead to infection. Gastrointestinal transmission results from ingestion of contaminated food. Thus, preventive measures should be emphasized in daily life.
