What causes swelling of a child’s lips, oral ulcers, and geographic tongue?
Disease description:
Ten days ago, the child developed oral ulcers and bumps at the corners of the mouth; nasal congestion and other symptoms appeared five days ago. What is causing the child’s swollen lips, oral ulcers, and geographic tongue?
Swollen lips in children may be caused by oral ulcers resulting from excessive internal heat (“shanghuo”), inflammation, or infection. To manage this condition, avoid spicy and irritating foods, drink plenty of water, and consume more fresh vegetables and fruits. It is essential to stay warm and avoid cold foods. Rinsing the mouth with warm saline solution may help. Additionally, oral administration of roxithromycin and Pudilan oral liquid may be considered.
