What Happens If You Eat Spicy Food with Mouth Ulcers?
Disease description:
I usually enjoy eating spicy food, but recently I developed mouth ulcers due to excessive internal heat (“shanghuo”). What happens if I eat spicy food while having mouth ulcers?
For patients with oral ulcers, long-term consumption of spicy foods can exacerbate pain and even prolong the healing time of the ulcers. Patients should drink plenty of water, get adequate rest, and may take anti-inflammatory, heat-clearing medications. They should avoid or minimize intake of spicy foods and instead consume more vegetables and fruits; their diet should be light and bland. In daily life, they should maintain adequate hydration, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and ensure good oral hygiene.
