Disease description:

My cervical and lumbar spine are both problematic—I frequently experience lower back pain and also suffer from cervical spondylosis. I would like to know what causes poor health of both the cervical and lumbar spine.

Individuals with pre-existing conditions such as osteophyte formation (bone spurs) or degenerative changes—particularly elderly patients—often experience reduced spinal strength and instability, primarily due to widespread spinal pathology. Prolonged forward head posture, cervical trauma, long-term use of excessively high pillows, or exposure of the cervical region to cold temperatures may lead to cervical pain and loss of normal cervical lordosis (cervical straightening). If left untreated over an extended period, these factors may progress to cervical spondylosis. Patients may adopt symptomatic interventions, including oral medications, acupuncture, cervical traction, massage therapy, and physical therapy. When conservative measures prove insufficient, minimally invasive or interventional surgical treatments may be considered to achieve appropriate therapeutic outcomes.
