Causes of Delayed Gross Motor Development in Infants
Disease description:
My baby’s body feels floppy, and after a hospital examination, the doctor diagnosed “gross motor developmental delay.” I would like to understand the causes of gross motor developmental delay in infants.
Delayed gross motor development in infants is primarily caused by damage to brain nerve cells or delayed brain cell development. For example, perinatal asphyxia leading to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, maternal hypertension or diabetes during pregnancy, postnatal hypoglycemia, or multiple gestation may all impair neural development, thereby resulting in delayed brain development. Additionally, calcium and vitamin D deficiency can also contribute to this condition.
