Cough-variant asthma in children commonly presents with symptoms such as an irritative, non-productive cough. As the condition progresses, additional symptoms—including wheezing—may develop. Once diagnosed, parents may administer bronchodilator medications to their child under a physician’s guidance—for example, montelukast sodium chewable tablets—and may also use inhaled corticosteroids via nebulization, such as budesonide.
