What does it mean when a child coughs and cannot catch their breath?
Disease description:
Recently, my younger brother has frequently experienced coughing accompanied by shortness of breath. Could you please explain what might be causing this?
A child’s cough accompanied by shortness of breath may be caused by bronchial asthma or pulmonary infection. If due to bronchial asthma, treatment—such as using albuterol inhalers—may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance. If caused by pulmonary infection, prompt hospitalization for intravenous antibiotic therapy is recommended; adjunctive nebulized inhalation therapy may also be used.
