What are the symptoms of childhood variant asthma?
Disease description:
A colleague’s child has recently been experiencing sudden nighttime coughing and breathing difficulties. This may indicate cough-variant asthma. What are the typical symptoms of cough-variant asthma in children?
Children with cough-variant asthma typically experience coughing episodes at night or in the early morning, often with sudden worsening of cough. Additional symptoms may include dyspnea, chest tightness, and shortness of breath, persisting for over one month. Without timely treatment, complications such as emphysema may develop. Cough-variant asthma in children cannot be treated with conventional antibiotics; instead, anti-asthmatic medications should be initiated as early as possible. In severe cases, surgical intervention may be required. Additionally, affected children should follow a light, bland diet.
