Itching and pain of the vulva may resolve spontaneously. In women, spontaneous resolution of vulvar itching can occur in certain cases. For instance, some women experience localized vulvar itching caused solely by simple vulvitis; this condition may gradually resolve after proper cleansing and maintenance of vulvar hygiene. However, if a woman develops vulvar itching, it is advisable to first visit a hospital for a comprehensive, routine vaginal discharge examination before initiating treatment. Vaginitis and vulvar itching often tend to recur, to varying degrees.
