Fluconazole Administration for the Treatment of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis
Disease description:
After being diagnosed with vulvovaginal candidiasis, I was advised to use fluconazole for treatment. Could you please advise on the proper dosing regimen for fluconazole in treating vulvovaginal candidiasis?
The typical regimen for treating candidal vaginitis with fluconazole involves completing the full course of treatment. However, during treatment, patients should ideally combine oral fluconazole with topical antifungal agents. After completing one course of therapy, patients are advised to discontinue the medication and visit the hospital for a follow-up examination. If the infection has not resolved, a subsequent course of treatment should be initiated. Should any adverse reactions occur, fluconazole should be discontinued promptly. Additionally, patients should regularly change their underwear; used underwear, basins, and towels should be boiled in hot water for disinfection.
