IUD insertion is contraindicated in patients with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID primarily manifests as increased vaginal discharge—typically purulent and malodorous. Common symptoms include lower abdominal pain, a sensation of heaviness or pressure, sharp or dull aching pain, and sometimes low back or sacral pain, which may worsen during or after sexual intercourse. Patients are advised to maintain good personal hygiene and avoid spicy, greasy, and other irritating foods.
