Is cervical erosion related to the insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD)?
Disease description:
I have been diagnosed with cervical erosion. I previously had an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted. Is cervical erosion related to IUD use?
Cervical erosion is not related to the insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD). Physiological cervical erosion results from the outward eversion of newly formed columnar epithelium. In contrast, pathological cervical erosion occurs when cervical inflammation serves as a stimulus. Cervical erosion can be diagnosed via electronic colposcopy. Once confirmed, regular cervical cancer screening is required.
