What Causes Pain Below the Right Scapula (Shoulder Blade) in the Upper Back?
Disease description:
My husband has recently been complaining of pain below the right scapula (shoulder blade) in his upper back. Could you please explain what might be causing pain in this area?
Pain beneath the right posterior scapula may be associated with neuralgia, bone tumors, or trauma. Inflammation or infection affecting the nerves beneath the right scapula can cause neuralgic pain—typically described as burning or stabbing—and this pain often intensifies during sneezing or coughing. Trauma such as a fall or direct impact to the area beneath the right scapula may result in local soft-tissue injury or scapular fracture, both of which can cause pain. Additionally, a tumor within the bone may compress the right scapula, leading to scapular pain.
