How long after HIV infection can it be detected?
Disease description:
It seems that HIV infection cannot be detected immediately after exposure. However, I’m now concerned that I might have HIV and would like to know how long after infection it takes for an HIV test to yield accurate results.
HIV infection can typically be detected as early as approximately two weeks after exposure. The time required to obtain test results depends on the testing method used. For instance, blood tests and HIV antibody tests generally take about one month to yield results. In contrast, HIV nucleic acid testing (NAT) can usually detect the virus within about two weeks.
